Error Upgrading Umango Due to ABBYY Licensing Service

During the process of upgrading Umango you may experience an error that states, "A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected". The event logs may describe this and include a reference to "LicensingService.exe_Install" within the MsiInstaller event source. 

Sometimes the ABBYY licensing service doesn't uninstall properly and this can cause an issue during the upgrade process. You can check if the ABBYY licensing service exists by looking for it in the services list. It will appear as "ABBYY SDK 12 Licensing Service". If you are upgrading from an older version then the service name may reflect an older version of the ABBYY service (eg. version 10) - if this is the case then the command detailed below needs to reflect the service name of the version installed.

Please do the following to manually remove the ABBYY license service:

  • Check the version of ABBYY installed (as described above)
  • Open a command prompt as administrator (run as admin)
  • Run the command below:

sc delete ABBYY.Licensing.FineReaderEngine.Windows.12.0

Note: if this fails you may need to restart the server and try again as the service may be in use or locked

Once this executes successfully please retry the installation of Umango.
