Umango merge fields are text areas within Umango that have access to metadata snippets or functions to retrieve or manipulate data.

The Umango GUI makes it easy to build these merged values with helper, preemptive text that assists with syntax and access to functions. Merge fields have a slightly different appearance to normal text fields - they contain a light blue background and will list merge options once you start typing in the field. Here is a merge field showing a list of helpers.
A complete merge field might look something like this...
In the example above, the file will be named something like Scanned on Thursday by Robert.
The example above shows the syntax helper highlighting the DateTime lookup in red. This is displayed because the user has left our an opening bracket "(".
